Last Sunday November 11, 2018, at Orlu, gun men ran a mock and murdered a PDP chieftain, Herbert Nwaneji thus instilling fear in the minds of politicians in Imo ahead of 2019.
The renewed case of politically motivated assassinations reminisces the events leading to the 2015 general election when gun men stormed the home of the leader of 10,000 youth graduate employees, Ugonna Emereonye and murdered him in cold blood in front of his mother and sister. This calls to mind high profile murder cases debuted in 2003 with the assassination of Chief Harry Marshal, Dikibo, Bola Ige, his former deputy Wada Nas, Abubakar Rimi Sulliat Adedeji and Chima Ubani.
However the most recent incident took place at Egwedu-Atta ward in Njaba LGA of Imo State when the lifeless body of Herbert Nwanneri was found at the boundary between Atta and Nkume towns in Njaba LGA.
A source had it that the deceased received an telephone call on Friday and rushed out of his house to keep to appointment but never returned.
His sudden disappearance from home all through the day forced his family to embark on a search that led to the recovery of his lifeless body, three days after.
The new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo State, Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident assured that the police will swing into action, to unravel the mystery behind the dastardly act.
At press time, the motorcycle with which the deceased rode to the destination of his untimely death has since been recovered with the Commissioner of Police Dasuki Galadanchi, ordering full investigation into the murder incident. Not much has been confirmed yet with different opinions on the possible cause of the murder.
