As the 2019 general elections draws nearer, a renowned broadcast journalist and advocate for gender equality, Mrs Adaora Onyechere, has called on Imolites, especially the good people of Okigwe state constituency to fully participate in the forthcoming general elections by voting for individuals with requisite qualities and knowledge and not political parties in order to better their lots.
The broadcaster cum politician made this assertion recently in Owerri, the Imo state capital while briefing journalists on her readiness to make the people of Okigwe state constituency have a feel of what effective representation is once she wins the position come 2019. The candidate of Action Alliance (AA) for Okigwe state constituency also expressed optimism in her ability to win at the polls following the tremendous support and acceptance she enjoys both from the old and the young who see her as one who has come to serve her people selflessly with her wealth of experience.
The Ihube born female politician frowned at the level of poverty her people have been subjected to as a result of bad governance and poor representation both at the state and Federal levels, stressing that her community and other neighbouring communities have been in total blackout for the past three years and nothing has been done about it.
She further stressed that this era is the time for youths to occupy various leadership positions. Hon Adaora Onyechere, urged the youths to get the needed experiences and then express their willingness to serve their people at various levels, shun thuggery and other social vices that may destroy or hinder their glorious future.
The emerging visionary politician opined that her idea of politics is not to enrich herself but to meet the needs of her people by interfacing with her constituents on regular basis to know their challenges. She berated the poor performance of the sitting representatives, both at the state and federal levels and called on the people of Okigwe state constituency not to mortgage their future for another four years by selling their votes and conscience by giving the wrong people their priceless mandate.
The only woman in the race for Okigwe state constituency stated that over the years she has been like a loud gong in her television programmes while championing for good governance. She added that this has propelled her to come out to practice what she preaches by contesting for a seat in the Imo State House of Assembly, to enable her serve the good people of Okigwe LGA, through effective representation. She also revealed that she registered over 2000 women in Action Alliance (AA) party in the recent past to pave way for the party’s victory in all elective positions come 2019.
