The incumbent Chief Maxwel Odunze has since withdrawn from the race, citing lingering crisis and disunity in Imo APC.
This is sequel to his landside victory in which he beat his closest rival Hon Obinna Onyeocha, to a distant second position in the rescheduled Imo APC primary election held on Saturday October 6, 2018 at Orlu. Chike Okoroji is the Orlu LGA co-ordinator of Ugwumba Movement, and highly favoured to win the 2019 general election also with a landside.
Our roving reporter who was on ground to monitor the exercise confirmed that though Chike Okoroji emerged as the most popular aspirant, the returning officer surreptitiously declared the man who took the second position Obinna Onyeocha as winner, after money had allegedly exchanged hands. A protest by Okoroji however marred the conspiracy to outsmart him by some leaders of the party from Orlu LGA who were reported to have gathered at Concord Hotel Owerri, to perfect the alleged crime.
The unfolding drama is said to be causing ripples in the party with Okoroji insisting that the ticket is his and the greedy leaders of Orlu APC should not destroy the party by shortchanging him.
Okoroji has so far described as enemies of Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, all those who may have conspired to deprive him of his hard won victory as the popular candidate and maintains that he would not relent until the mandate is restored and victory further assured, since he alone has the capacity to win for Imo APC, the Orlu state constituency seat for Imo APC.
