A governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and former House of Representatives member for Owerri Federal Constituency Chief Uche Onyeagocha and the Chief Executive Officer and Publisher of Community Watchdog Newspaper, Comrade Precious Nwadike were amongst five prominent Imolites chosen to be honoured with service merit awards in Obinze Owerri West LGA as part of this year’s annual Mothers Day Celebration. The ceremony which held at Obinze drew a large crowd.
As part of his homily to mark this years Mothers Day Celebrations, which also coincided with the Catholic Church celebration of Divine Mercy, the Parish priest of St. Thomas Church Obinze, Rev. Fr. Raymond Onuoha stated that the church this year opted to honour these five gentlemen for their outstanding and distinguished contributions to the development of the society and courage.
He also said, those who are opportuned to lead at any level should always consider the welfare, safety and security of the greater majority of the citizenry.
While presenting the awards to the recipients, the President of the Catholic Women Organization of the church, Lady Julie Nwokeke, said that members of the women organization are impressed by the contributions of the award recipients in serving humanity.
For instance, she noted that some of her colleagues have keenly watched and followed with interest the bold reportage and human interest stories of the Community Watchdog Newspaper and the medium’s devotion to the welfare of the people.
In his response after the award, Hon. Barr. Uche Onyeagocha who had previously donated a transformer to the church at Obinze, promised to provide all the poles required to draw power to the church premises and as well ensure that the transformer is energized and power connected to the church.
He commended the women for appreciating the good works of some persons in the society with a promise to ensure that the church regains all her lands in order to have a place to build a school for their children if he emerges as Governor of Imo State.
On his part, the Watchdog Publisher, Comrade Precious Nwadike who again dedicated his award to Imo Pensioners said that he has a mission to stand, speak, work and fight for the people at all times.
He appealed to the Imo State Governor to ensure that elder statesmen and women who are dying gradually are paid their emoluments as there are no justifiable reasons on earth to with hold their pensions except for acts of sadism. He pledged that his outfit and his colleagues will not relent in the struggle for freedom of speech, accountability and rule of law in our hand.
The Mothers Day celebration featured other events after the church service, which included dance, displays and other forms of entertainment by Catholic women all dressed in the popular “Madonna Uniform” in honour of Mother Mary.
