Imozurukwo, a socio-cultural pressure group comprising seasoned technocrats, academics, professionals and politicians, visited Arch Bishop A.J Obinna of the Owerri Metropolitan Archdiocese over the weekend, in solidarity and to also appreciate him for being vocal and courageously standing firmly on the side of truth and the oppressed masses at a time many of those expected to speak out against bad governance in the state have suspiciously kept quiet.
Speaking at the occasion, the President General of the group, Barrister George Eke expressed satisfaction that the bishop has consistently refused to be cowed or compromised. “We, as a group that is concerned about the welfare of the people came to identify with you and also assure you of our continued support and encouragement in your dogged and relentless fight against injustice, impunity, insensitivity and bad governance in it’s entirety”. “We are firmly behind you and Imozurukwo condemns everything you have always condemned about this government in the interest of the people”.
They also reassured the bishop of their steadfastness and commitment in the quest to halt bad, visionless and purposeless governance in the state, come 2019, by ensuring that only credible, honest and transparent men and women of integrity are elected into office.
Responding, Bishop Obinna commended the group for coming and for also appreciating his modest effort towards ameliorating the pain, and hardship, being presently unleashed on the people. He, in his usual style, narrated to Imozurukwo, the unpleasant encounter he had with some overzealous agents of the state government, during a burial ceremony at Ngwoma, Obube, in Owerri North LGA of Imo State recently, when he advised the electorate to massively participate in the voter registration exercise, to enable them elect credible people that will correct all the wrongs, restore the state’s lost glory and bring it back on the path of social, economic, and political development.
The cleric also urged Imozurukwo to remain focused and consciously resist every attempt by sponsored detractors and fifth columnists to infiltrate and split them, for selfish reasons, to the detriment of the people.
The Chairman of patrons, Imozurukwo, Prof. F. C. Dike (SAN), presented the group’s certificate of registration, aims and objectives to the Archbishop. He also explained how formidable the group is and assured him that, “with the caliber and antecedents of people in the group, like Chief Ejike Uche (Dimkpasaa), Prof. Protus Uzorma, Chief Damian Ezeagu, Prof. Jude Njoku, Prof. Jamike Adiele, Prof. Akaolisa, amongst others, we will not disappoint Imolites, as we have marshaled out plans to liberate the people from ineptitude, retrogression, pain and agony, occasioned by bad governance by ensuring that a sensitive and people-oriented government that will restore the peoples’ shattered hopes and put smile on their already gloomy faces is elected in 2019”.
