It was a moment of praise, singing, thanksgiving and worship at the Owerri City primary school behind former Fire Service, last Wednesday, 31 January 2018 as Pastor Ebubechukwu Akuchukwu who represented the entire Imo schools parents, engaged the pupils and teachers of the newly constructed school in an hour of thanksgiving and prayers to God in an appreciation of the free education programme of the Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
Speaking, the Imo state commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Mrs. Getrude Ego Oduka, represented by sister Modaline Osuigwe described the prayer summit as the first of its kind. According to her, it is always good to show an appreciation to the free education ambassador, Owelle Rochas Okorocha who she said that God has used to fulfill the promise to ensure that education is made free in the state. According to her, Pastor Ebubechukwu has shown a good example of the biblical leper that returned to Jesus after his healing and was made whole.
In his word, Pastor Ebube who stated that he could not withdrew from giving thanks to God and appreciating the Governor, said he has three children at the City Primary school currently, who are doing well academically more than when they were in the private schools. He stated that his little son who used to come 28 positions over 35 pupils in the private school, is now academically and morally sound which he said that he is now proud of the school in their teaching and learning exercise.
He also used the medium to call on his fellow Imo state parents, whose wards are enjoying the free education stuff to choose a date for thanksgiving and praise, singing for God’s continuous sustenance of the programme even after Governor Okorocha would no longer be on seat as the state governor by 2019. While thanking him for the economic boom accompanying the free education programme, which he said had helped him to engage in the projects rather than using the money to pay school fees. The pastor pleaded for the sustenance of the free education.
Speaking, the headmistress of City Primary School and Development Primary School II Owerri, Mrs. Patricia Uzorho and Mrs. Stella Ihianacho respectively who are jointly occupant of the new ultra modern primary school blocks, thanked Pastor Ebubechukwu for such a wonderful gesture and called on the Commissioner for Education, to make such prayer sessions a monthly affair.
The highlights of the prayer sessions was the proclamation and blessing offered to the teachers and heart rendering and enriching blessings to the pupils as well as special prayers to the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and family, whose benevolence and wisdom have sustained the scheme so far.
