- Say, he is best option for party’s return to Douglas house
The well attended high profile wedding ceremony of the former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Prof. Jude Njoku’s son to his heart throb, held over the weekend at the Catholic Chaplaincy, in the premises of the Imo State University, Owerri, was indeed a gathering of political heavyweights and the cream de la cream of the society.
The event, which was like a carnival and attended by virtually all stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and beyond, was also graced by top politicians and leaders of thought from across party lines.
Some of the leaders who confided in our reporter at the event said, “If PDP really wants to win the Imo state governorship election and bounce back to relevance in 2019, they should field a seasoned and tested technocrat and administrator like Prof. Jude Njoku, who aside being loved and held in very high esteem by the youths, elders and even the women, has the political sagacity, requisite administrative experience and academic prowess. Besides, he is a marketable candidate that will be accepted by all segments of the society”.
Speaking in the same vein, a top politician and community leader from the Mbaise nation who doesn’t want his name in print said, “though PDP has a lot of qualified and credible candidates, the choice of Prof. Jude Njoku as our governorship candidate, come 2019, will definitely unite the party and ensure the much needed cohesion”. He said the party should be more concerned about ultimately winning the election and not just fielding a candidate based on sentiments, “because we all know what we have lost and suffered since we lost Douglas house. We therefore need a candidate like Prof. Njoku who has all it takes and is widely accepted everywhere to enable us restore our lost glory”. He stressed that, any attempt to field any other candidate will not only spell doom for the party but result in total failure which will be highly regrettable.
There has been a general consensus among PDP stalwarts, stakeholders and supporters for some time now, that Prof. Jude Njoku, whose wife is Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede is the best among all those positioning themselves for the governorship position of Imo state, come 2019, on several grounds, including the fact that he has clean and transparent track record that is devoid of any dent, social or political controversy.
