As the quest for 2019 general election, gathers momentum and the need for the emergence of a good and conscientious leader, to succeed Owelle Rochas Okorocha, intensifies, a new group has emerged on the stage fiercely, canvassing support for one Dr. Lawrence Osondu, as the next governor of Imo State.
The group made up of resourceful Imo indigenes living predominantly in diaspora, but who recently sent a high powered delegation to the Okirika Nweke Ekwereazu Ahiazu Mbaise born medical expert, thus persuading him to come home and salvage his people from palpable enslavement and bondage. In a SOS message delivered to Dr. Lawrence Osondu, the diaspora group pleaded with him to accept their passionate appeal and entreaties to come and use his wealth of administrative acumen and experiences, to resuscitate and redeem Imo State from imminent and total economic collapse and devastation.
Addressing newsmen in Owerri shortly after a crucial meeting to drum up support for the governorship aspirant of the erudite scholar and expatriate medical renowned scientist, Dr. Lawrence Osondu, the leader of the group and crown prince of Eke Umuokirika in Okirika Nweke Autonomous Community of Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Chibuzor Nwokodikwa, explained that they took this line of action, based on Dr. Lawrence Osondu’s reputable track records as a two time president of “All Mbaise in the USA” and one who has distinguished himself in honest and transparent leadership globally. He opined that Dr. Lawrence Osondu though residing and doing well in the USA, has continued to keep touch with and abreast of happenings at home so much that he is aware of the political challenges confronting his people and already desperately strategizing for the possible solutions. He described the medical practitioner as a grassroots leader and ex-classroom teacher who touched many lives at home long before he travelled to America for greener pastures and having found that, is now ready to share his decent ideas with all Imolites.
Prince Nwokodikwa further stated that Imo State at this trial period deserves the best and that the election of somebody likes Dr. Lawrence Osondu as executive governor would guarantee massive job creation and employment and wealth opportunities. This, he argued is what Imo State deserves. He then disclosed that through Dr. Osondu, most Imo youths were able to secure visa to travel to the USA and other parts of the world, where they are presently doing very well for themselves and their families. The above qualities, according to Prince Nwokodikwa are what motivated his group into the project of luring or persuading Dr. Lawrence Osondu into the 2019 Imo governorship race as the most credible option for an impoverished despondent people.
He then enumerated some of the selfless services already rendered to Imolites by Dr. Lawrence Osondu to include his yearly free medical mission which he organizes at his Lude Nnarambia Ahiazu home and at the Imo Foundation in Owerri, for the rest of the Imo people. Prince Nwokodikwo while acknowledging the readiness of Dr. Lawrence Osondu, in taking the challenged and answering the clarion call to throw his hat into the ring as that is the way out of the political quagmire and leadership crisis in Imo state, thanked him for accepting the challenge in good fate. He promised that the diaspora group would remain very resolute and supportive, in efforts to ensure that the task of liberating Imolites from bondage and enslavement is conveniently accomplished.
Contributing, a member of the delegation and Professor of Literature, Dr. Emeka Uhuegbu also from Mbaise nation commended Dr. Osondu for accepting the appeal and promised to render every necessary support to see to the realization of his project by bringing down home his immense knowledge and wealth, to bear on the task ahead. Continuing, he expressed confidence that Chief Osondu, as a tested and trusted person, who had in the past used his wealth and profession freely for the benefit of the poor and down trodden, will not disappoint the people of the state once elected Governor. He further described Dr. Osondu as a God fearing, inspired and high motivated young man with strong intent, ability and capability to bring the desired change.
Professor Emeka Uhuegbu therefore used the avenue to urge all Imo people who are eagerly awaiting for their redeemer, to note that God has heard their cry and pleaded for massive support for Dr. Osondu. Responding to the encomiums heaped on him unsolicited, Dr. Osondu who was present at the meeting expressed sincere appreciation for the honour and confidence reposed in him by those who want the best for Imo State. While accepting what he termed, “a divine clarion call”, Dr Osondu promised to make public his choice political party for the realization of the collective governorship aspiration of the group. He concluded by calling on the group to always rally round him so as to contribute effectively in moving the state forward, and not to behave like saboteurs, who will put a bag of salt on your head and force down the rains while you are still on the way.
