In wishing the people of Imo State happy Christmas celebration under the present harsh economic and sorrowful political conditions, the United Progressive Party (UPP) Imo State has pledged to usher in a new government with human face, due process and rule of law that will redress the present injustice, to our people with a promise that Imo will return to the path of justice equity and peace, with the electoral victory of UPP in 2019.
In a message to the people of the state signed by the state chairman, Hon. Dr. C. J. Egbuchulam, the party observed that governance in the state has been reduced to mere jokes and trivialities. He further decried the deplorable and horrible state of affairs which he said, have gotten beyond human endurance, showcasing infrastructural decay, non-payment of workers’ salaries, pensioners, bounced cheques, endless demolition of public and private properties with the attendant displacement of public and private homes as well as recklessness and unnecessary waste of our scarce resources which crave for God’s attention.
The party believes that governance and leadership are core serious businesses; hence at the national level it seeks for a constitutional amendment that will introduce a referendum on self determination and restructuring among others, to address the imbalance in our society.
The UPP claims to be a home baked political party, conceived and born out of pure necessity and circumstance to give the marginalized Igbo race a place of political respite, honour and relevance in the Nigerian arena. He argued that prior to now, the Igbos have been politically enslaved and had only the choice of moving aimlessly and out of two major political parties dominated and controlled by those who deride the Igbo man.
The chairman in his goodwill message, prayed for the love of God to envelope all Imolites throughout this Christmas celebration and appealed to the people to use the yuletide period for a reflection on what the state has gone through and what we will like to be and join hands to build a formidable Imo state of our dream, come 2019.
