– Accused of representing only the rich
The member representing Nkwerre, Nwangele, Isu and Njaba federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Jones Onyereri is presently under serious attack by youths in his constituency.
The federal law maker who is also Chairman, house committee on banking and currency who recently secured jobs for two youths from two stupendously rich and powerful families in his constituency, has been accused of representing only the interest of the rich and powerful and ignoring yearnings of the less privileged, whose interest should be more paramount.
According to a release issued by Njoku Macdonald Obinna of Abba 4th force (Centre for Rights Advocacy), the employment secured for two youths from the famous Anyaehie dynasty of Nkwerre LGA and the powerful Chuma Nnaji political family in Njaba LGA respectively in the Nigerian Export and Import (NEXIM) bank has elicited much controversy, as the constituents are wondering why it is only the children of the rich that are always empowered by Hon. Onyereri.
They wondered why the job offers were not publicly advertised for all eligible candidates in the constituency to apply.
Some of the youths who commented on this issue accused Hon. Jone Onyereri of hypocrisy and playing to the gallery. According to them, “we thank Hon. Onyereri for this laudable empowerment scheme. However, the choice of giving it to “the already made and rich families has elicited much commendable and condemnable plethora of comments from keen observers and other conservatives”. They urged Hon. Onyereri to provide a level playing ground and “stop pouring sachet water into an ocean”. After all, he was not elected by only the rich and powerful”.
