The Imo state President of the Flour and Bakery Materials Dealers Association, Comrade Chima Iwu has recalled the trauma and anxiety suffered by the traders of demolished traders of the Ekeukwu Owerri.
Comr. Iwu who bared his mind to newsmen in Owerri recently stated that removal and demolition of Ekeukwu Owerri unrealistic, is wrong and untimely giving the state of our national economy. He described, “the Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s willful action” as the gross show of wickedness and insensitivity.
Iwu pointed out that Imo state was not the first to demolish a market but ought to have envisaged that such action was untimely with several lives and property worth billions of naira destroyed and mostly the development had sent some of the traders packing now awaiting death by installment.
The state Chairman of Flour and Bakery Materials Association, Comrade Iwu who hails from Afara in Mbaitoli LGA said that the new market at Egbeada Mbaitoli is yet to be completed and that the one at Naze Industrial Cluster is not accommodative. He then pointed out that his displaced members have neither a shop nor a warehouse to deposit their goods, which ugly development he said have an adverse effects on the products, most of which have long expired and rendered useless.
He stated that in view of the above challenges, the Governor has actually shown them a land at Irete. He therefore appealed to the Governor to assist those who were badly affected by the demolition to develop their structures at the Irete new market.
